Alabama man charged with murder after woman overdoses in home

Limestone County investigators have charged a man with murder following a reported overdose in his home.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were called to a residence in the 13000 block of Quinn Road on Wednesday, July 26 at about 7:24 p.m.

They found an unresponsive woman in the living room of the home of Gary Amerson, 46, of Athens.

Amerson allegedly told authorities he administered a dose of Narcan to the victim, ate a bowl of cereal, and called 911, 20 minutes after discovering her unresponsive.

Investigators, however, say that Amerson waited more than an hour before calling 911.

Amerson faces charges of felony murder, as well as drug trafficking (meth), possession of a pistol by a violent felon, two counts of drug possesion, felony possession of drug paraphernalia and drug distribution. He is being held in the Limestone County Detention Facility on $110,000 bond.

Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin said Amerson was bringing three to four pounds of meth and up to 32 grams of fentanyl into the area each week.

“His drug operation is now over. We will continue aggressively seeking and prosecuting these offenders to the fullest extent of the law,” McLaughlin said.
