Alabama man charged with âworst typeâ of human trafficking in Panama City Beach, sheriff says
An Alabama man is accused of holding a woman against her will and forcing her into the sex trade to pay a debt, according to the sheriff in Panama City Beach, Fla.
Panama City Beach police chief J.R. Talamantez said 47-year-old Chad Cornelius Seymore of Dothan was charged with human trafficking, kidnapping and sexual battery in what Talamantez described as the “worst type of case.”
Seymore used “manipulation, threats, a bunch of criminal activity to convince a victim to act in some of the most horrendous types of situations,” Talamantez said during a Wednesday news conference.
In a release, police said the victim was found at a Panama City Beach hotel after receiving a trespassing report. Officers found the woman hiding in the hotel front office.
She reportedly told officers Seymore had paid bail money for her and brought her to Panama City Beach to pay off that debt. Seymore told her that he owned her and she would have to perform sexual acts for him. He threatened to kill her if she refused, the victim told police.
Once in Panama City Beach, the woman was forced to take nude photos which Seymore would upload to social media sites, according to police. She was also held against her will and denied food or use of a cell phone.
Warrants for Seymore’s arrest were issued Wednesday and he was arrested in Dothan the same day, with assistance from local law enforcement.
As of Thursday afternoon, Seymore remained in the Bay County (Fla.) Jail, held without bond pending an initial court appearance.
