Alabama man charged in fatal New Year’s Day DUI near FloraBama
A Bay Minette man is facing multiple charges in connection with a New Year’s Day crash near the FloraBama lounge which left another man dead.
Caleb Jonathan Scott, 23, was arrested last week in Baldwin County and extradited to Escambia County, Fla., according to WEAR in Pensacola.
Scott is charged with vehicular homicide, DUI manslaughter, reckless driving causing serious bodily injury, and DUI causing serious bodily injury.
According to the report, the crash occurred just after midnight New Year’s Day as Scott was driving a Ford Bronco, with two other men inside, near the FloraBama.
Police said investigation indicated the Bronco was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit a speed bump and went airborne, striking a light pole on the shoulder of the roadway before bursting into flames.
A 56-year-old Bay Minette man — identified only as a relative of Scott’s — died in the crash, while the other passenger, a 23-year-old Gulf Shores resident, suffered serious injuries, as did Scott.
As of Tuesday, Scott remained held without bond in the Escambia County Jail.
