Alabama man arrested in Florida road rage case a ‘danger on the road and off,’ sheriff says
An Alabama man with a lengthy criminal record has been charged with battery, criminal mischief and child abuse after a road rage incident in Walton County, Fla.
According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a convenience store on Highway 20 in Niceville regarding a fight in the parking lot.
Deputies were advised the suspect — identified as 40-year-old Thomas Keebler of Valley, Ala., had been tailgating the victims — two adults, one juvenile — and “aggressively” passed the car in Highway 20.
Investigators say surveillance footage from the convenience store shows Keebler exited his truck, clearly enraged and lunges at the passenger before attempting to strike the passenger in the backseat.
Another subject attempts to exit the vehicle, but Keebler kicks the door multiple times to prevent them from doing so. Keebler is then seen shoving the juvenile, knocking him to the ground.
The driver of the vehicle attempts to intervene, but Keebler grabs him, puts him in a headlock and strikes him numerous times. Keebler then fled the scene.
Walton County investigators identified Keebler as a suspect who had been ticketed multiple times during 2023. He was contacted and turned himself in at the Walton County Jail Tuesday evening.
He was released Wednesday after posting $5,000 bond.
“This is an individual our deputies have encountered numerous times,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson. “Not to mention his extensive criminal history which includes driving under the influence, assault, possession of cocaine, terroristic threats, public intoxication, and more from jurisdictions across the southeast.
“He is a danger on the road and off.”
