Alabama man arrested in fatal hit-and-run involving 70-year-old bicyclist
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has arrested the driver who struck and fatally injured a 70-year-old bicyclist just outside of Mobile on Saturday, July 19.
Around 10 a.m. Jessie E. Forrest, 70, was fatally injured when the bicycle he was operating was struck from behind by the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Dwayne A. Mills, 41, of Mobile, according to a release from ALEA.
The crash occurred on Beverly Road near Argyle Road, approximately nine miles west of Mobile city limits, in Mobile County.
After the collision, Mills failed to stop and fled the scene of the crash, officers say.
Forrest was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Mills was eventually located by troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division and was arrested and charged with Felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Manslaughter.
Mills was placed in the Mobile County Jail and currently does not have a bond, according to ALEA.
Nothing further is available as ALEA Troopers continue to investigate.
