A chihuahua puppy is dead from excessive burns after a man allegedly placed the dog in an oven, according to Atmore Police Department.

James Williamson, 44, was arrested Monday after officers responded to a home on the 100 block of Cuitt Drive regarding an injured animal.

In a press release, the department said that after arriving a dead puppy was found badly burned at the residence. The puppy was allegedly placed in the oven by Williamson because he was tired of the dog’s “excessive barking.”

“A witness overheard Williamson say he was going to put the puppy in the oven if it didn’t quit barking,” the department said.

“The witness also heard a dog yelping in pain a short time later but didn’t realize what was happening.”

Williamson has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.
