Alabama man allegedly used dead man’s identity to buy 33 guns, thousands of rounds

Jackson County authorities say a man used the identity of a dead man as he amassed dozens of firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, investigators arrested a man on drug possession charges on Oct. 2, 2024. However, the identity the man provided belonged to another man who was dead, according to authorities.

The man’s real name is Stuart Jeffery Sandrock, 70.

According to authorities, Sandrock was convicted of soliciting to commit murder in San Diego back in 1993.

According to The Los Angeles Times, Sandrock, an attorney, was charged with soliciting a jail inmate to murder one of his former clients, a convicted drug peddler who previously attempted to have the lawyer removed from his case.

He has also previously faced assorted charges in Maryland, Idaho and California.

A search of Sandrock’s Flat Rock residence on County Road 81 Monday discovered 33 firearms, suppressors, thousands of rounds of ammunition and documents in the name of the identity Sandrock was allegedly using, investigators said.

Sandrock has been charged with seven counts of identity theft, obstructing justice using false identity, certain persons forbidden to possess firearms, two counts of possession of a short barreled rifle and drug paraphernalia possession.

He is currently being held on $45,500 bond, and additional charges could follow.
