Alabama LB Ian Jackson announces transfer to AAC school after 3 seasons
Ian Jackson announced his transfer to UTSA on Thursday night. The former Alabama linebacker entered the portal on Jan. 4. He’ll have two years of eligibility remaining.
Jackson, of Prattville, appeared in three games throughout his career, lastly recording a tackle against Mississippi State in 2022. He was a four-star inside linebacker prospect out of high school and a top-300 recruit, per ESPN. UTSA went 9-4 in the American Athletic Conference last season.
Twenty-three players have entered the transfer portal in one of the most hectic turnovers in college football history: UA lost to Michigan in the Rose Bowl; head coach Nick Saban retired nine days later; new coach Kalen DeBoer is attempting to build a staff while retaining key pieces of the roster.
At interior linebacker, Jackson’s position, the Tide will return Deontae Lawson and Jihaad Campbell. Linebackers coach Robert Bala announced Jan. 18 that he wouldn’t be retained on DeBoer’s staff.
