Alabama LB commit Sterling Dixon transferring for senior year
Alabama linebacker commit and Mobile Christian star Sterling Dixon, the reigning Class 3A Lineman of the Year, will change schools for his senior season, his father confirmed Monday afternoon.
Sterling Dixon Sr. said the family does not yet know which high school the younger Dixon will attend this fall.
“We are not exactly sure right now,” Sterling Sr. said. “We are trying to decide which route to go. We want to make the best decision that is most beneficial to his future. We’ve told Sterling that we would take a week or so to analyze the situation and make the best decision for what fits our family.”
He committed to Alabama in December.
Mobile Christian coach Ronnie Cottrell verified to AL.com that Dixon did indeed speak with teammates after practice and told them he was leaving the school.
“We are going to miss him,” Cottrell said. “He’s been an outstanding player here.”
As a junior, Dixon’s 172 tackles and 18 sacks were a Mobile Christian school record. He also had 39 tackles for a loss. He is currently the No. 10 senior in the state, according to the On3 Class of 2024 rankings.
“We have not withdrawn yet, but we do know Sterling will be playing somewhere else this season,” Dixon Sr. said. “We love Mobile Christian. Mobile Christian has been nothing but good to us. It will always be home, but Sterling wanted an opportunity to play at a higher level in his final year and see if he could be as productive.”
Dixon, who had been heavily pursued by LSU and Auburn among other colleges, announced earlier this summer that he was shutting down his recruitment and locked in with the Crimson Tide.
