Alabama lands 2nd international prospect in 2024 class, adds Steve Mboumoua
Alabama kept stocking the defensive trenches on Wednesday. Steve Mboumoua, a defensive lineman, committed to the Crimson Tide, joining the class of 2024 at the start of the early signing period.
Mboumoua was born in Cameroon and moved to Canada for his high school football career. He attended Notre Dame de Foy in Saint-Augustin de Desmaures, Quebec, for three years. He announced his decision in the school’s auditorium surrounded by friends and family.
He is listed at 6-foot-4, 260 pounds. 247Sports Composite ranked Mboumoua as the No. 342 prospect nationally and 41st-best defensive lineman.
Mboumoua visited Alabama in December, his latest visit of the season. He picked the Tide and defensive line coach Freddie Roach over Georgia, Florida and Auburn, among others.
Like most international prospects, Mboumoua went on a summer tour, attending multiple camps at SEC schools and trying to sell coaches on his upside. Per 247Sports, Mboumoua made 52 tackles, including nine sacks during his final high school campaign. His film shows Mboumoua aligned as an edge rusher and linebacker, allowing him to showcase his quick break toward the ball.
In July, Alabama added Justin Okoronkwo, a linebacker from Germany to the class. They’ll join offensive lineman Olaus Alinen and punter James Burnip as UA’s other international players. Mboumoua reclassified into this recruiting cycle and is eligible to join Alabama for its Rose Bowl practices as a mid-year enrollee.
Mboumoua is Alabama’s eighth player amid its 23 commits across high school and the transfer portal that plays either defensive line or linebacker. As signing day neared, Alabama made a push to add depth on the defensive line specifically, adding Missouri four-star Jayshawn Ross and Texas A&M transfer LT Overton.
Alabama’s class remained at second overall on 247Sports team charts, second behind Georgia.
