Alabama is among America’s most obese states, survey says
Alabama is the seventh most obese state in the U.S., according to U.S. News & World Report.
The magazine examined adult obesity rates for all 50 states, based on self-reported survey data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state health departments.
Obesity is classified as having a body mass index of 30 or above.
According to the survey, West Virginia was the most obese state, with 41.3% of its residents considered obese.
Another six Southern states made the top ten, or the heaviest ten, depending on how you see it.
Alabama boasts a population where 37.9% of its residents are considered obese.
According to the magazine, at least 35% of adults in 22 states in 2022 were obese, while no state met that mark 10 years ago. Now, three states have at least 40% of their adult populations that are considered obese.
