A search is underway for an Alabama prison inmate who escaped early Tuesday.

Pershon O’Neal Pettway, 27, was serving a two-year prison sentence for receiving stolen property at the Childersburg Community Based Facility and Community Work Center in Alpine.

Authorities said a routine institutional bed roster check was conducted at 3:32 a.m. At about 4:20 a.m., the count did not clear.

It was determined that Pettway was not present and was unaccounted for.

Pettway is described as a Black male, 6-feet, 1-inch tall who weighs 135 pounds. He is now also wanted for escape.
