Alabama inmate escapes from work assignment in Gulf Shores, may have stolen bicycle

Authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped from his work assignment late Wednesday morning in Gulf Shores.

Christopher Ivy Bates was last seen around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday near Baldwin County Road 8, according to Gulf Shores police.

Bates, an inmate at the Loxley Community Work Center, ditched his inmate clothing and was dressed only in his underwear and a white T-shirt when he escaped, police said.

Bates, who was described as 5-feet 4-inches tall and 144 pounds with a neck tattoo and gold teeth, may have stolen a bicycle.

Anyone with information on Bates’ escapes or has video doorbell or similar footage of Bates in the area was urged to call Gulf Shores police at 251-968-2431.
