Alabama in the Pro Bowl: 53 all-star players
Seven Alabama players were named to this season’s Pro Bowl Games rosters on Wednesday night, including one selected for the first time.
That brought to 53 the number of Crimson Tide alumni who have totaled 152 selections for the Pro Bowl, AFL All-Star Game, Pro All-Star Game and now the Pro Bowl Games.
Last year, 11 Alabama alumni were chosen. The only other season with more Crimson Tide players than 2023 was 2019 with nine.
The Alabama alumni picked this year include:
· Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper
· Philadelphia Eagles guard Landon Dickerson
· Pittsburgh Steelers free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick
· Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry
· Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II
· Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa
· New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams
The selection is the first for Tagovailoa. Dickerson, Surtain and Williams earned their second selections after getting their first last season. Fitzpatrick and Henry are four-time selections, and Cooper received his fifth.
They add to the legacy of former Alabama standouts who have been chosen for the Pro Bowl, the AFL All-Star Game or Pro All-Star Game, which was played intermittently before the Pro Bowl started in 1951.
Last year, the NFL eliminated the Pro Bowl game and replaced it with the Pro Bowl Games, a skills competition and flag-football contest for the selected players.
The 7-on-7 flag football game featuring the Pro Bowl players will be held on Feb. 4 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida, as the culmination of a multi-day AFC vs. NFC competition in which all-stars will demonstrate their football and non-football skills in a variety of events.
The 44-player rosters for the AFC and NFC teams were determined by the votes of fans, coaches and players, with each group’s results counting one-third in the selection process.
