Alabama ice climber rescued after 20-foot drop in New Hampshire

An ice climber from Alabama was saved on “repentance route” at Cathedral Ledge in New Hampshire after a 20-30 foot drop, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.

Ryan Cooper, 21, of Fairhope, had been lowered to ground level by his climbing partner when first responders arrived at 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, according to Fish and Game.

Rescuers carried Cooper in a litter to the trailhead and took him to Memorial Hospital in Conway, New Hampshire for a leg injury.

New Hampshire Fish and Game reminded hikers to prepare themselves before heading out into the wilderness, and listed 10 items to bring: map, compass, warm clothing, extra food and water, headlamp, fire starter, first aid kit, whistle, rain/wind jackets and pants, and a knife.
