Alabama hotel housekeepers save kidnapped teenaged girl from sexual abuse

A teen girl was rescued by housekeepers at Dothan hotel after authorities say a 46-year-old man forced the girl into a room Sunday afternoon.

Hotel housekeepers saw the abduction, removed the teen from the room, and called 911. The suspect was quickly taken into custody.

Steven Ayers is charged with first-degree kidnapping and first-degree sexual abuse.

Just after 1 p.m., Dothan police responded of a report of a possible kidnapping at a hotel in the 2100 block of Ross Clark Circle.

When officers arrived, employees told officers about a man forcing a female into a hotel room. The housekeepers intervened and rescued the girl, who is under the age of 18, said Police Chief William Benny.

Police attempted to make contact with the suspect, but he fled on foot on the second floor of the hotel.

Officers were able to quickly surround him and take him into custody.

The victim told police that Ayers had made sexual advances toward her, which she refused.

Ayers then touched the victim inappropriately, and she tried to leave the area. That is when police say Ayers grabbed the girl from behind and forced her into a hotel room.

Authorities said Ayers and the victim did not know each other.

Ayers is being held without bond in the Houston County Jail.

“Crimes like these will not be tolerated,’’ Benny said. “The Dothan Police Department will hold those who commit these crimes accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
