Alabama high schools’ top 10 NFL passers
Two players from Alabama high schools threw passes during the 2022 NFL regular season. Both Jameis Winston and Nick Mullens already hold places in the top 10 for NFL passing yards among former Alabama prep stars, although neither added a lot to his total this season.
A former Hueytown High School quarterback, Winston started the first three games of the 2022 campaign for the New Orleans Saints. But for the second season in a row, an injury knocked Winston out of the lineup, and he never returned to the field.
A former Spain Park High School quarterback, Mullens played in four games as Kirk Cousins’ backup with the Minnesota Vikings in 2022.

This season was the first since 2005 without at least 1,000 passing yards by a former Alabama high school star. For all but one of those 16 seasons, former Athens High School quarterback Philip Rivers met that threshold on his way to becoming the state’s all-time NFL passing leader.
The 10 players from Alabama high schools with the most NFL passing yards are:
1. Philip Rivers: 63,440 passing yards
San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers 2004-19, Indianapolis Colts 2020: The former Athens High School standout completed 5,277-of-8,134 passes with 421 touchdowns and 209 interceptions for a 95.2 passer rating during his career. Rivers received eight Pro Bowl invitations.
2. Ken Stabler: 27,938 passing yards
Oakland Raiders 1970-79, Houston Oilers 1980-81, New Orleans Saints 1982-84: The former Foley High School and Alabama standout completed 2,270-of-3,793 passes with 194 touchdowns and 222 interceptions for a 75.3 passer rating during his career.
