Alabama GOP dinner with Florida’s Ron DeSantis will be closed to press
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a possible contender for the Republican Presidential nomination in 2024, is speaking in Hoover on March 9, but the press will not be allowed to attend.
“Sarah – I’m sorry, but the event is closed to press,” spokesman Jeannie Negrón Burniston, the state GOP communications director, wrote in response to a request for a media pass.
DeSantis is a featured guest at the Alabama GOP’s Winter Dinner, which “traditionally features some of the biggest names in Conservative politics,” the website reads.

The website describes the event as “an amazing opportunity for Republicans across Alabama.” It’s unclear whether a livestream or video will be available to those unable to attend in person.
Tickets for the event are $250 per person, or $400 per couple, with some ticket sponsorships available.
AL.com reached out to the Alabama Republican Party and DeSantis’ team asking about the decision not to allow press. At the time of publishing, neither group has responded.
Last week, The Dallas Morning News reported that a Harris County, Texas, event would exclude media at the request of DeSantis’ team.
