Time to pull out the coats: Cold temperatures are on the way to Alabama.

The National Weather Service has issued freeze watches for the northern half of the state for Tuesday night (that’s Halloween) into Wednesday morning, and more cold temperatures are expected Wednesday night into Thursday as well.

Temperatures are forecast to fall as low as the mid-20s in north Alabama during that time, with 20s and 30s expected through the rest of state.

Even south Alabama will fall into the 30s before it is over, according to forecasters.

The weather service is reminding Alabamians to bring in pets and sensitive plants and check on those who may not have any heat during this time period.

A strong cold front is expected to move through Alabama today, and cold air will settle in over the state in its wake. The front could bring a few showers to parts of northern Alabama, but no severe weather is expected.

North and central Alabama will feel the shift in temperatures later today, and the cold air will make it to south Alabama on Tuesday.

The freeze watches for Alabama will go into effect Tuesday night. Here is a look at them:

NORTH ALABAMA

* Freeze watch from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning for all of north Alabama, including Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Marshall, Jackson, DeKalb and Cullman counties.

The National Weather Service in Huntsville said temperatures could get a low as 26 degrees during that time frame.

CENTRAL ALABAMA

* Freeze watch from Tuesday night until Wednesday morning for Marion, Lamar, Fayette, Winston, Walker, Blount, Etowah, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Clay, Randolph, Sumter, Greene, Hale and Bibb counties.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said temperatures could get as low as 30 degrees by Wednesday morning in those areas.

Another cold night will be in store for Wednesday into Thursday, with lows again forecast to dip into the 20s and 30s in parts of the state.
