Alabama footballâs JC Latham shares which NFL tackles he models game after
Alabama football offensive tackle JC Latham will likely play in the NFL sometime in the next two seasons. He could opt to forego his senior season and enter the 2024 draft, or return to school and head to the league in 2025.
Latham is already looking at tackles in the league to try and improve his own game. On Tuesday, he was asked which NFL players he looks to model his play after..
“There’s two guys that I really like to watch, Lane Johnson and Trent Williams,” Latham said.
Johnson plays right tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles. He helped the Eagles win Super Bowl LII.
Latham said watching Johnson is the most directly useful for him, on the field, given that they man the same position.
“Lane, he knows what to do and he’ll do it at a consistent level every single play,” Latham said.
Williams is the left tackle for the San Francisco 49ers. He has been a first-team all-pro twice and has made the Pro Bowl 10 times throughout his career.
He plays on the opposite side from Latham, but the Alabama tackle said he admired Williams for a different reason.
“Trent, he plays with a swagger in how he likes to get things done,” Latham said. “So I like a lot of that side of Trent.”
Both Johnson and Williams played their college football at Oklahoma, where they were teammates during the 2009 season. They’ve both had long and successful NFL careers, and will both likely be present on hall of fame ballots in the coming years.
Excellent role models for players like Latham.
“Both guys play two different types of styles of football, but they both play it at the highest level and they’re both probably the best at their positions at their respective spots.”
