Alabama footballâs Chris Braswell ejected for targeting vs. Chattanooga
Alabama football edge-rusher Chris Braswell’s final game at Bryant-Denny Stadium was shorter than expected. The senior was ejected from the Crimson Tide’s home finale against Chattanooga for targeting in the first quarter.
The play came on a 2nd-and-6 from Chattanooga’s 29. Mocs quarterback Luke Schomburg dropped back and his left tackle totally whiffed on Braswell.
The linebacker launched and hit Schomburg directly in the helmet. The UTC signal-caller was blown backward by the hit, but got up immediately and did not require medical attention.
Braswell’s hit was immediately flagged by officials. After a brief review, the call was confirmed and he was ejected.
The play looked somewhat similar to Dallas Turner’s hit on LSU quarterback Jaylen Daniels earlier in the 2023 season, though Braswell hit Schomburg higher than the contact on Daniels. Turner was called for roughing the passer, but not targeting, a decision that drew the ire of Tiger head coach Brian Kelly.
Braswell’s ejection occurred in the first half. Therefore, he will not miss any of next week’s Iron Bowl game at Auburn.
The hit moved the Mocs up to its own 44. However, it did not result in points for Chattanooga.
Alabama was up 21-0 on Chattanooga at the end of the first quarter on Saturday after Roydell Williams scored the Crimson Tide’s third touchdown of the game. The game was streamed on SEC Network+.
