Alabama football steady in coaches poll top 25 rankings after LSU win
Alabama football stayed steady in the US LBM coaches top 25 poll when it was released on Sunday, following a win over LSU. The Crimson Tide remained No. 8 in the rankings.
LSU took a tumble following the 42-28 defeat at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Tigers fell six spots to No. 19 in the poll.
Just ahead of Alabama, two teams switched places. Texas fell to No. 7, after surviving in overtime against Kansas State in Austin, while Oregon jumped to sixth with a convincing win over Cal.
Georgia remained at No. 1 atop the coaches poll, followed by Michigan, Ohio State and Florida State. The Associated Press media poll will be released later on Sunday, while the official College Football Playoff rankings will be updated Tuesday evening.
Alabama’s win over LSU put the Crimson Tide well into the lead of the SEC West race. UA can now clinch the west next week, with either a win over Kentucky or an Ole Miss loss to Georgia.
The Tide offense carried much of the load on Saturday. Nick Saban said throughout the week that LSU’s offense was the best in the nation, but the Tigers were outdueled by Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, who rushed for four touchdowns in the win.
The Alabama defense came through with enough timely stops to earn the shootout victory. Most notably, Dallas Turner batted a ball into the air, which Terrion Arnold came down with for a fourth quarter interception.
Alabama will be back in action Saturday against Kentucky in Lexington. The game is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. CT and will be aired on ESPN.
