Alabama football rises in coaches poll top 25 rankings after bye week upsets

Alabama football was idle on Saturday, but still took a jump in the coaches poll top 25 rankings when they were updated Sunday. The Crimson Tide was ranked No. 11 in the poll, jumping two spots after sitting at No. 14 last week.

The Tide benefitted from a run of upsets on Saturday. Texas A&M fell to South Carolina, then dropped five spots to No. 16 in the coaches poll, and Clemson dropped nine positions to No. 17 after losing to Louisville.

Iowa State also lost to Texas Tech, spoiling the Cyclones’ undefeated season and dropping them from 10th to 18th in the coaches poll. Penn State took a tumble after losing to Ohio State, falling four spots to No. 7.

Oregon remained at No. 1 in the poll, with Georgia still sitting second. Ohio State moved up to No. 3, followed by Miami and Texas to round out the top five.

Tennessee is ranked sixth in the coaches poll, followed by Penn State, Notre Dame, BYU and Indiana, before Alabama.

Ole Miss moved up to No. 12 after blowing out Arkansas, while LSU jumped three spots to No. 13. Alabama will face the Tigers in Baton Rouge on Saturday, a game with massive College Football Playoff implications.
