Alabama football loses former 5-star linebacker to transfer portal: Reports

Alabama football will lose another name on defense to the transfer portal. Linebacker Jeremiah Alexander will enter the transfer portal, according to multiple reports.

Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer of 247Sports were the first to report the news. Alexander had five tackles for the Crimson Tide throughout the 2024 season.

Alexander joined Alabama under the Nick Saban regime, as a member of the 2022 recruiting class. He was the No. 1-ranked player in the state of Alabama according to the 247Sports composite, coming in from Thompson as a five-star prospect.

He redshirted his true freshman season in Tuscaloosa, before seeing action in 14 games in 2023. Alexander missed the first three games of 2024 with an injury.

The 6-foot-2, 232-pound Alexander moved from edge to inside linebacker during his time in Tuscaloosa. Alexander earned praise from defensive coordinator Kane Wommack before the 2024 season.

“I think Jeremiah Alexander is starting to take steps forward in the right direction,” Wommack said in August. “You know, he’s played the jack position in the last couple years and making that transition to inside linebacker — those are two different worlds, right? You can’t just sit there and say, ‘Well, I’m gonna move this guy from here to here.’ You got to rep that, you got to work that.”

Alabama players received a five-day window to enter the transfer portal following the end of the 2024 season. The Crimson Tide fell Tuesday, losing to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
