Alabama football injury update: Who’s prepping for Week 1?

It’s almost that time. Alabama football is hours away from beginning its 2023 season against Middle Tennessee State.

The Crimson Tide is looking for its 22nd-straight victorious home opener, a streak that pre-dates Nick Saban. Who’s available and who’s out injured?

Sophomore linebacker Jihaad Campbell participated in some warmup drills with a brace on his left knee. Campbell had his knee scoped about a week ago, according to Nick Saban and was “doubtful” for Saturday. He was still listed on the depth chart second behind Deontae Lawson at weakside linebacker.

DeVonta Smith, who’s been out “for a while” with a foot injury, wasn’t spotted on the field. Neither was sophomore wideout Emmanuel Henderson.

Elsewhere, Justice Haynes was expectedly in uniform after a “quad contusion” held him out of Alabama’s second scrimmage. Haynes took handoffs and worked with the fellow running backs pregame.

Miles McVay, a freshman, sat out UA’s August open practice with a brace on his right knee. He was doing warmups with the rest of the group about 90 minutes before kickoff.
