Alabama football injury report: Kadyn Proctor likely out for USF game

Alabama football will likely be without its starter at left tackle, Kadyn Proctor, for Saturday’s matchup with South Florida due to a shoulder injury. Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer during UA’s radio pregame show that the sophomore will probably miss the game.

“Probably looking right now that he won’t be suited up for the game,” DeBoer said on the Crimson Tide Sports Network.” But he’s making that progress. Day to day. Hoping for next week that he’s good to go.”

ESPN reported Proctor was doubtful on Saturday. DeBoer had characterized him as “day-to-day” throughout the week. However, Proctor took the field with the Crimson Tide for warmups in full uniform after DeBoer’s pregame show interview.

The tackle had walked onto the field before the game with some of his Alabama teammates before players were fully dressed out.

Proctor rejoined the Crimson Tide this offseason after initially transferring to Iowa. The 369-pound sophomore started every game for Alabama in 2023.

He initially practiced with the Tide’s second-team offense, but quickly jumped up the depth chart to reclaim his left tackle slot. He ran out with the team last week against Western Kentucky for pregame warmups, but quickly left the field with Alabama’s training staff.

DeBoer confirmed after the game that Proctor had been injured during warmups. Elijah Pritchett, who had battled with Wilkin Formby throughout camp for the starting spot at right tackle, started in Proctor’s place.

“I thought he did a nice job,” Alabama offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan said of Pritchett on Monday. “We have confidence in the guys in that room. You have to be ready when you’re called upon. Coach (Chris Kapilovic) does an awesome job, as you have to, as you cross train. You train guys at multiple spots. Left, right, inside, outside. You want to make sure you get your best five guys out there, no matter what the circumstances are. It’s not the first time Pritch has played left tackle.”

The Tide has several other options at the left side, including Miles McVay and moving Formby over. Offensive guard Tyler Booker could also slide outside, something Kapilovic acknowledged was possible on Wednesday.

UA also released a practice photo during the week, which showed Booker at tackle and Geno VanDeMark filling his spot at left guard. Those two came out in those positions with the Crimson Tide’s first team during warmups on Saturday.

“We have all kinds of thoughts,” Kapilovic said. “And Booker’s played every position since I’ve been here. He’s had center reps in the summer, he had tackle reps in the spring. Anything is possible, right? You just look and evaluate, who are your best guys? Who are the guys that can do it? And then you have them ready to go.”

Alabama and USF are scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. CT. The game will be aired on ESPN.
