Alabama football climbs in coaches Top 25 poll after Ole Miss win
Alabama football got the job done on Saturday, beating Ole Miss 24-10. After the win, the Crimson Tide climbed in the rankings of the AFCA coaches Top 25 poll.
Last week, the Crimson Tide fell to an eight-year low in both the coaches and Associated Press media polls. For the coaches, the Tide had fallen to No. 12.
That situation improved slightly Sunday morning when Alabama climbed back to No. 11. Ole Miss, which had entered the game ranked No. 16 in the coaches poll, dropped to No. 20.
“I thought we played hard,” Saban said of the win over the Rebels on Saturday. “I mean guys competed, really physical. Dominated the line of scrimmage. Got off the field on third down on defense and kept them off the board.”
The Crimson Tide struggled a bit in the first half Saturday, but beat down the Rebels after the break. Ole Miss couldn’t get its offense going enough to put up much of a fight late, with the UA defense turning in an excellent performance throughout.
Alabama still showed some of its flaws as a team throughout the game. However, it was a much improved effort from the loss to Texas and ugly win over South Florida that proceeded it.
Georgia maintained its place on top of the coaches poll, with Michigan remaining in No. 2. Ohio State moved up one spot to No. 3 following a last-second win over Notre Dame, while Florida State dropped to No. 4 after an overtime win over Clemson.
Alabama is the second-highest ranked team in the coaches poll. The Crimson Tide sits one spot ahead of LSU (No. 12), which beat Arkansas 34-31 Saturday, and climbed one spot.
Others ranked include Tennessee (19th), Missouri (22nd) and Florida (23rd). Kentucky and Texas A&M also received votes.
Texas, which beat Alabama in Week 2, leading to one of the Crimson Tide’s slides down the rankings, moved up one stop to No. 5.
The updated AP poll will be released at 1 p.m.
