Alabama football bowl projections: What if the Tide doesn’t make the CFP?
Alabama might not make the College Football Playoff, even with a win over Georgia in the SEC championship game on Saturday. The Crimson Tide is ranked No. 8, and no school ranked that low this late in the process has ever jumped into the final field of four.
Still, win or lose, UA’ s season doesn’t end Saturday in Atlanta. The Tide will be playing in a bowl game, whether it’s a CFP semifinal or not.
Here’s how the experts are projecting Alabama’s bowl situation will shake out.
CBS Sports– Cotton Bowl
Jerry Palm projected that Alabama will miss out on a semi final, with those spots going to Georgia, Michigan, Oregon and Florida State. However, he still placed the Crimson Tide in a selection committee bowl, the Cotton, against Washington.
The bowl is scheduled for Dec. 29 in Arlington, Texas.
Yahoo Sports– Peach Bowl
A projection from Nick Bromberg would have the Crimson Tide finishing the season in the same stadium it will be playing the SEC championship game in Saturday. Yahoo has Alabama playing a familiar foe from years past, Penn State, in the Peach Bowl.
The game will be played Dec. 30 in Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
USA Today– Peach Bowl
Another projection sending Alabama to Atlanta. This one has the Crimson Tide facing Tulane in the Peach Bowl.
The Green Wave would be the Group of 5′s representative in the New Years Six bowl games.
247Sports– Fiesta Bowl
247′s Brad Crawford has Alabama in a battle of currently one-loss teams in the Fiesta Bowl. The projection put the Tide and Ducks in the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale.
The game is scheduled for Jan. 1.
ESPN– Cotton Bowl and Fiesta Bowl
Two analysts at the Worldwide Leader had differing opinions on Alabama. Kyle Bonagura put the Tide in the Fiesta against Oregon, while Mark Schlabach had it in the Cotten, playing Florida State.
The Athletic– Fiesta Bowl
Another prediction that has the Crimson Tide traveling to Arizona. This one has UA facing Washington in Glendale.
