Alabama football awards scholarship to long snapper Kneeland Hibbett
Alabama football could have the best special teams room in the country, and now all three starters are on scholarship.
Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer revealed Thursday that long snapper Kneeland Hibbett is now on scholarship. Hibbett was awarded the scholarship during preseason camp.
“I wasn’t sure even internally how to handle that,” DeBoer said. “I wanted to surprise him. We did that. He’s got that. He deserves that. He’s rock solid and just a great person.”
Alabama does senior talks, and Hibbett started it off last week, DeBoer said.
“He knocked it out of the park,” DeBoer said. “You can just see the type of leader that he is. How much the guys trust and believe in him. How much they respect him.”
Hibbett is a Florence native who has been a walk-on snapper the past three seasons. He earned the starting job in 2021 and hasn’t looked back.
During the 2022 season, he not only snapped successfully but he also recovered a fumble while in punt coverage during the Iron Bowl. Then in 2023, he earned a spot on the All-SEC first team.
“He’s just really trustworthy, and he’s great to have on this team,” DeBoer said.
