Alabama football adds 10th commit to 2024 class with 4-star athlete

Alabama football is starting to stack up prospects, earning its second in four days and 10th overall in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

On Saturday night, Jameer Grimsley, a four-star, committed to the Crimson Tide on his Instagram Live account. Grimsley chose Nick Saban and co. over Florida and Michigan.

Grimsley tried on a hat for each of his contenders before opting for a Saban-esque straw hat.

“I’m going there to work. I appreciate the support. … I think this is the best position for me and family to accomplish my dreams and head to the NFL,” Grimsley said.

Grimsley will join Clay-Chalkville’s Jaylen Mbakwe as the second designated athlete of Alabama’s group, according to 247Sports Composite. Like Mbakwe, Grimsley may end up in the secondary. Grimsley is listed at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds and is the No. 19 cornerback in the class.

Alabama offered Grimsley in February along with a flurry of other schools. Grimsley has played wide receiver and as a defensive back in high school. Last year, Grimsley was a standout at Bloomingdale (Fla.) High and scored three touchdowns with an interception. Grimsley transferred to Tampa Catholic for his final year in high school.

The Tide recruiters for Grimsley were wide receivers coach Holomon Wiggins and cornerbacks coach Travaris Robinson. Grimsley took an official visit to Tuscaloosa on June 16.

With the addition of Grimsley, Alabama’s class jumps 11 spots on the 247Sports team ranking from 29th to 18th overall, leapfrogging three Southeastern Conference teams. The Tide is now seventh in SEC behind Texas A&M and South Carolina.

On Wednesday, Alabama welcomed defensive lineman Isaia Molofaha Faga to its class.
