Alabama football: 5 players change numbers, per team roster
The college football regular season is days away and teams are making their final preparations for the 2023 run. For Alabama, that includes hosting a tryout for walk-ons this weekend. It also meant updating a few uniform numbers.
The team updated its roster page on Friday, revealing five expected contributors with new numbers. The change was possibly made to allow multiple players to contribute on special teams — NCAA rules dictate only one number per team can be on the field at a time. UA could be avoiding doubles.
Three defensive backs made adjustments. UAB transfer Jaylen Key went from ‘22′ (the same as Justice Haynes) to No. 6. Louisiana-Lafayette transfer Trey Amos changed from ‘23′ to No. 9. And veteran Kristian Story has been ‘11′ (Malik Benson) and is now No. 4.
Sophomore reciever Kobe Prentice switched from ‘80′ to No. 6. Freshman wideout Jalen Hale is No. 14, a change from No. 82. Alabama released its last batch of new numbers in July through its media guide.
The Crimson Tide open on Sept. 2 against Middle Tennessee.
