An Alabama elementary school teacher has been arrested after authorities say she was intoxicated at school.
Charlene Downs, a 53-year-old first grade teacher at Blountsville Elementary School, was booked into the Blount County Jail at 11:39 a.m. Monday.
She is charged with public intoxication.
Charging documents state that Downs appeared at the school Monday under the influence of alcohol or drugs to the degree that she endangered herself or others.
Blount County Schools officials are expected to release a statement on the matter later today.
Downs was released from jail Tuesday. Her first court date is set for April.
