Alabama fell to No. 2 in Monday’s Associated Press men’s basketball poll after losing last Wednesday to Tennessee.

Houston moved into the top spot after winning both of its games last week, including Sunday over Memphis. The Cougars received 48 first-place votes, while Alabama and No. 3 Kansas both received seven.

Alabama rebounded from its 68-59 loss to the Vols by hammering Georgia on Saturday, 108-59. It was the first week Alabama had been No. 1 since December 2002.

The top of the AP poll mirrored the NCAA’s statistically-based NET rankings, in which Houston has consistently held the No. 1 spot over Alabama at No. 2.

But in the NCAA tournament committee’s rankings released Saturday, Alabama was the No. 1 overall seed ahead of Houston, even after its loss to Tennessee.

In the coaches poll released later Monday, Alabama also fell to No. 2 after being ranked No. 1 last week for the first time in program history. Houston received 24 first-place votes and Alabama received six.

Alabama (23-4, 13-1 in SEC) plays at South Carolina this Wednesday night (10-17, 3-11 in SEC) before hosting Arkansas (18-9, 7-7 in SEC) on Saturday for senior day.
