Alabama faces snow, sleet and freezing rain: Winter weather advisory issued for tonight

North Alabama could get a little bit of snow tonight, as well as sleet and freezing rain, and a winter weather advisory will be in effect.

The National Weather Service in Huntsville said the wintry mix could make roads slippery tonight and into Wednesday morning.

The rest of Alabama is expected to only get a cold rain because temperatures should stay above freezing.

The winter weather advisory will go into effect at 9 p.m. and includes the following counties: Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Marshall, Jackson, DeKalb and Cullman.

The weather service said mixed precipitation is expected in those areas tonight.

Total snow accumulations up to 1 inch and ice accumulations around a light glaze will be possible.

The northern part of central Alabama could also see a little mixed precipitation, but so far there are no winter weather advisories in effect there.

However, the weather service in Birmingham warned that there could be some slippery spots overnight and Wednesday morning for areas near and north of the U.S. Highway 278 corridor:
