Alabama faces more severe storms today: Heavy rain possible across the state
Alabama faces another day with the potential for severe storms.
Rain and strong storms had already moved into north Alabama on Thursday morning, and the National Weather Service expects those to continue to drop southeastward:
A few could become severe through the day today, with wind gusts as high as 60 mph and heavy rain.
Storms will be possible statewide through the evening hours.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a Level 1 out of 5 (marginal) risk for severe weather for the majority of Alabama today. The exceptions are extreme north and extreme south Alabama.
A Level 1 risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible.
Friday will begin a transition to hotter and slightly less soggy weather, according to the weather service.
Forecasters said there will be low to medium chances of heat indices reaching the triple digits Sunday through next week.
Highs are expected to soar well into the 90s each day next week. There will be chances for afternoon rain and storms, but the rain is not expected to be as widespread as it has been this week.
