Alabama faces extreme bitter cold: How cold did it get where you live? When will it get warmer?
Alabama woke up to very cold temperatures on Monday morning, and extreme cold warnings remained in effect for parts of the state.
This might not be the coldest it gets this week. However, there’s a warmup on the horizon.
Temperatures as of 6 a.m. Monday were hovering in the teens in many areas, according to data from the National Weather Service.
Here are the lowest temperatures from midnight until 6 a.m. Monday, according to the weather service:

- Anniston: 18 degrees
- Auburn: 21 degrees
- Birmingham: 18 degrees
- Decatur: 14 degrees
- Demopolis: 21 degrees
- Dothan: 26 degrees
- Evergreen: 23 degrees
- Gadsden: 16 degrees
- Greenville: 21 degrees
- Haleyville: 12 degrees
- Huntsville: 13 degrees
- Mobile: 23 degrees
- Montgomery: 23 degrees
- Muscle Shoals: 15 degrees
- Ozark: 26 degrees
- Prattville: 22 degrees
- Sylacauga: 20 degrees
- Talladega: 19 degrees
- Troy: 24 degrees
- Tuscaloosa: 19 degrees
It won’t warm up all that much today.
High temperatures on Monday may not make it above the freezing mark for north and north-central Alabama, according to weather service forecasts.
Low 40s will be the highs for south Alabama (see the forecast for today at the top of this post).
Another bitterly cold night is expected for Alabama tonight, with more temperatures in the teens possible for north and central Alabama and the low 20s in south Alabama. Here are tonight’s forecast low temperatures:

On Tuesday, a “significant” winter storm is expected to affect south and south-central Alabama.
The weather service said 1 to 3 inches of snow will be possible for parts of south Alabama, and winter storm warnings will go into effect:

Tuesday night has the potential to be the coldest of a very cold week.
More lows in the teens expected for a wide area and low 20s will be possible in south Alabama, which also may have snow on the ground.

Temperatures will continue to slowly climb through the rest of the week, and by Sunday Alabama will be back in the 50s and 60s for highs.

There’s good news for those who like warmer temperatures. The Climate Prediction Center’s temperature outlook for the end of January and early February shows increased probabilities for above-average temperatures for Alabama:
