Alabama earns No. 3 seed, double-bye in 2024 SEC tournament
Alabama men’s basketball fans will be staying up late Friday night. The Crimson Tide finished as the No. 3 seed in the 2024 SEC Tournament bracket, and will play in the latest game of the day in Nashville.
The top four seeds in the tournament earn a double-bye, with no games on Wednesday or Thursday. Alabama clinched the spot with a comeback win Saturday over Arkansas in overtime.
“Getting a bye till Friday makes it much more likely that you’ve got a chance to win that tournament,” Alabama coach Nate Oats said after the game. “So this was big. We needed to win, and our guys knew what was at stake.”
The Crimson Tide’s game time isn’t set in stone yet. The game will take place immediately following No. 2-seed Kentucky’s game at 6 p.m. CT on Friday, so likely around 8:30 p.m.
Alabama will play the winner of Thursday’s game between Florida and either Georgia or Missouri. The Gators and whichever opponent they face are scheduled to tip off at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Nashville.
Tennessee drew the top seed in the tournament, while Kentucky finished second. Auburn got the final double-bye as the No. 4 seed.
If Alabama advances to the semifinal, it will play the winner of Kentucky’s Friday game. Oats noted after Saturday’s game that the Tide avoids the No. 1 seed until the tournament’s final game.
“We’ll see who we end up with on Friday and Saturday, and see if we can’t get a rematch with Tennessee for a third time on Sunday,” Oats said. ” That’d be great.”
Alabama’s Friday game will be aired on the SEC Network.
