Alabama deputy injured in chase, suspect arrested in Tennessee
A Madison County deputy was injured Sunday night during a chase.
According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened following a traffic stop at Alabama 53 and Research Park Boulevard.
A deputy stopped a black Kia Optima and learned that the driver, William Corey Haston, 45, had three outstanding warrants.
According to authorities, as the deputy was attempting to handcuff Haston, he ran to his vehicle and fled the scene. The deputy pursued Haston, but his vehicle left the roadway and struck a culvert. The deputy was transported to Huntsville Hospital, where he remained overnight with serious injuries. Authorities say he is expected to make a full recovery.
Haston’s vehicle was discovered today by deputies at a residence in Lincoln County, Tenn. Working with the Lincoln County (Tenn.) Sheriff’s Office, authorities found Haston hiding inside the residence.
He was arrested and transported to the Lincoln County Detention Facility, where he is being held on a fugitive warrant, awaiting extradition back to Alabama.
“This offender will face a plethora of criminal charges along with traffic violations once he is extradited to Madison County,” the sheriff’s office announced in a social media post.
