Alabama defensive lineman Monkell Goodwine will enter transfer portal
Alabama football defensive lineman Monkell Goodwine confirmed on social media that he’ll be entering the transfer portal Wednesday. The news was first reported by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.
Goodwine shared the news on X, formerly known as Twitter, with a statement of his own.
“Ready To Turn This Thing Up,” Goodwin said in the post.
The 6-foot-4, 290-pound Goodwine spent three seasons in Tuscaloosa. He joined the Crimson Tide as a four-star prospect in the class of 2021 from Maryland, choosing UA over offers from Arizona State, Clemson and Florida State among others.
He was ranked as the No. 13 defensive lineman in the class according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He never saw much playing time throughout his time in Tuscaloosa.
Goodwine played in just two games during the 2023 season, against Middle Tennessee State and Mississippi State. He played just once in 2022,seeing the field against Auburn.
He was able to redshirt his freshman season at Alabama, playing in just two games that year as well. Goodwine will have two seasons of eligibility at his next destination.
Goodwine was part of a flurry of Alabama players hitting the portal after the Crimson Tide’s season came to an end on Monday with an overtime loss to Michigan in the College Football Playoff semifinals. Though the entry window for most undergraduate FBS players is over, Alabama’s have an extra window due to CFP participation.
