Alabama defender expected to enter transfer portal, per reports

Alabama football edge defender Jayshawn Ross is expected to enter the transfer portal, according to multiple reports Friday morning.

Ross is a 6-4, 239-pound freshman from Kansas City, Missouri. He saw limited action in 2024, playing a few snaps against Mercer late in the season.

Alabama players have an extra five-day window after the ReliaQuest Bowl to enter the transfer portal.

Ross was a four-star prospect and the No. 15 edge defender in the 2024 recruiting class, per the 247Sports Composite.

Ross joins Keanu Koht as edge defenders leaving via the transfer portal from the 2024 Alabama roster. Que Robinson also will not be back as his eligibility expires.

So, Qua Russaw, Yhonzae Pierre and Noah Carter are set to return at that spot. Jah-Marien Latham also played some at that position late in the season with injuries, and he has not yet revealed his intentions for 2025.

Alabama also added Justin Hill, the No. 51 overall recruit, at the edge defender spot. The Crimson Tide plucked him from Ohio State’s backyard.
