Alabama DB Terrion Arnold concussed against Tennessee, starting RB ‘beat up’
Alabama football has managed a slew of injuries well through the first portion of the 2023 season. That continued during its 34-20 win over Tennessee, but a few more players hit the sidelines.
Starting defensive back Terrion Arnold is in concussion protocol after leaving the game in the third quarter, head coach Nick Saban announced. Arnold’s absence was ultimately not a negative factor against the Volunteers (5-2, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) as Lousiana-Lafayette transfer Trey Amos filled in well. Saban said Arnold has a “slight concussion” and hopes for Arnold to be cleared for a return in a few days.
Arnold is typically the boundary cornerback opposite Kool-Aid McKinstry. Arnold would replace Malachi Moore at STAR, as well.
Elsewhere, Alabama returned Malachi Moore to its secondary. He made five tackles, including one for a loss. UA also played without one of its starting linebackers, Trezmen Marshall. The Georgia transfer left last week’s game against Arkansas early and practiced this week in a black, non-contact jersey. Marshall went through pregame warmups but did not participate.
“I always ask the player, do you think you could play? And even though was able to practice a little bit … he can move around decent enough, but every time he’d bump somebody it was a problem. Hopefully, in two weeks he’ll be OK,” Saban said.
The Crimson Tide’s next game is on Nov. 4, it’ll host LSU with a chance to secure a trip to the SEC championship in Atlanta.
Jihaad Campbell filled in alongside Deontae Lawson and produced 10 tackles and returned a fumble 24 yards for a game-clinching touchdown. Saban also said running back Jase McClellan was “beat up” coming into the game. McClellan managed to produce 115 rushing yards on 27 carries, including one touchdown.
