Alabama correctional officer arrested in drug trafficking investigation

An Alabama correctional officer working at St. Clair Correctional Facility in Springville has been arrested as part of a large narcotics investigation.

Lt. Calvin Bush was arrested and put on mandatory leave pending dismissal after state prison narcotics agents searched a home and recovered illegal drugs, the Alabama Department of Corrections said in a press release Saturday.

“Bush was arrested and charged with trafficking methamphetamine and trafficking marijuana. The investigation continues as ADOC agents work to identify additional individuals involved,” the agency said.

The arrest was part of a larger drug trafficking investigation focused on the St. Clair Correctional Facility.

During the home search in Odenville, agents recovered 8.87 pounds of methamphetamine, 2.5 pounds of marijuana, 60 pounds of promethazine liquid, synthetic cannabinoid, oxycodone pills, marijuana, crack cocaine, cocaine powder and other drug-trafficking related materials.

The St. Clair County Sheriff and District Attorney’s Office helped with the operation as did the Odenville and Margaret Police Departments.
