Alabama continues building 2024 roster, brings in 4-star safety Zavier Mincey

The Alabama class of 2024 grew a little bigger on Saturday. Zavier Mincey, a safety from Florida, announced his commitment during the All-American Bowl.

Mincey is rated as a four-star from Mainland High in Daytona Beach, Fla. 247Sports Composite ranks Mincey as the No. 4 safety in his class and a top-55 player.

Mincey was an expected commitment for the Crimson Tide. The announcement, however, comes at a good time when considering a flux of departures at Mincey’s position. Mincey recorded six interceptions across three years, winning a state title as a senior. He also ran track and played basketball at 6-foot-1, 187 pounds. His other finalists were Miami and Florida.

The Tide offered last February, making Mincey’s top 10 before hosting him throughout the season. He and running back Daniel Hill, who also committed during NBC’s broadcast, will join UA’s second-ranked class.

The Tide welcomed five defensive backs via its high school class last month: Jaylen Mbakwe, Zabien Brown, Peyton Woodyard, Rydarrius Morgan, Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. While in California for the Rose Bowl, Nick Saban secured a commitment from former five-star and USC cornerback Domani Jackson.

Alabama brought in seven defensive backs ahead of last season. It’s experiencing a similar level of turnover after the 2023 campaign. Both starting boundary cornerbacks Kool-Aid McKinstry and Terrion Arnold opted for the NFL Draft. Jaylen Key exhausted his eligibility. Malachi Moore has yet to confirm his plans and depth pieces Earl Little and Kristian Story are in the transfer portal.

Along with Saraland five-star Ryan Williams (who will sign next month), Mincey would give UA seven top-100 prospects in the class.
