Alabama congressman Barry Moore to speak at CPAC Hungary 2023
U.S. Rep. Barry Moore, R-Enterprise, is set to speak Saturday at the final day of CPAC Hungary 2023 on the theme “No Country for Woke Men.”
Moore, who was first elected to Congress in 2020, is among dozens of right- and far-right speakers addressing the Hungary expansion of the Conservative Political Action Conference, which began in the United States in 1974 and has grown into one of the most prestigious stops on the conservative speaking circuit. CPAC Hungary held its inaugural convention last year.
The Alabama congressmen’s speech is presumably centered on “woke ideology,” the catchall term used by Republicans in opposition to the left’s views on social justice and equity.
Hungarian President Viktor Orban’s speech to CPAC Hungary 2023 on Friday also touched on the theme of “wokeness,” comparing it to Communism.
“The woke movement and gender ideology are exactly what Communism and Marxism used to be,” he said, according to the Associated Press. “They artificially cut the nation into minorities in order to spark strife among the groups.”
Other American figures with speaking slots at CPAC 2023 include Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar, who has ties to far-right groups such as the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers, and former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, who disputed the results of the 2020 election and refused to concede her defeat in 2022′s governor’s race.
CPAC Hungary 2023 is being held in a conference hall in Budapest, on the Danube River.
A sign over the entrance to the venue read “No Woke Zone,” according to the AP.
