An Alabama community is mourning the loss of a mother, father and one of their two children who were killed in a weekend crash in Phenix City.

Those killed were Ami Napier, 32, Jimmy Napier Jr., 33, and their 8-year-old son, Hudson Napier.

Grayson Napier, 4, survived the deadly crash and is in serious condition at an Atlanta hospital.

Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry said the family’s SUV was traveling on U.S. Highway 80 East near Garrett Harrison Stadium when they crashed into the rear of a semi-truck. Ami Napier was driving.

The parents were pronounced dead on the scene at 6:12 p.m., Sumbry said.

Hudson and Grayson were airlifted to a Georgia hospital where Hudson died on Sunday.

Smiths Station Mayor F. L. “Bubba” Copeland called the deaths a tragic loss.

Ami Napier, Copeland said, was a loving wife and mother.

Jimmy Napier worked at Jordan Vocational High School College and Career Academy. He also coached Smiths Station Youth Baseball.

Hudson attended East Smiths Station School and played youth baseball.

The mayor announced a community-wide moment of silence to be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The City of Smiths Station’s Park and Recreation Director, Jason Stewert, has recommended that citizens wear their favorite jersey in commemoration of the family on Tuesday.

The family has set up a memorial at the corner of Lee Road 296 and 297 so that mourners can pay their respects. They ask that no memorial items be placed at the actual crash site.
