Alabama commit Ryan Williams will finish school early, join 2024 recruiting class
Alabama commit Ryan Williams made it official Monday morning, announcing he would finish high school a year early and reclassify into the current 2024 signing class.
The move has been rumored since the spring.
Williams, the reigning Mr. Football in the state of Alabama, accounted for 30 touchdowns in his junior season for Saraland, including four in Friday’s Class 6A championship loss to Clay-Chalkville.
The 5-star wide receiver has been the top-ranked player in the state of Alabama class of 2025. He also announced he would play in this year’s Under Armour All-American Game.

“I’m proud for him,” Saraland head coach Jeff Kelly said. “Given all that goes into decisions like that in the modern-day era of college football – from Ryan’s point of view – I think it’s a no-brainer. He’s had a remarkable two years at the high school level. He’s done an amazing job, been a great teammate and done everything we’ve asked.
“He sees this as a tremendous opportunity to start the next step of his football career. There are probably only a handful of kids in high school who have the physical ability to graduate early and compete in college right away, and he’s one of those guys.”
Williams is expected to sign during the February period and finish high school in May. The early signing period starts Dec. 20. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound Williams caught 11 passes Friday at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa for 232 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored on a 2-yard run and an 86-yard kickoff return.
“Ryan is dynamic no matter where you get him the ball,” John Garcia, national recruiting analyst for Rivals, said last week on Sports Talk 99.5 in Mobile last week. “You can hand it to him, and he can go 80. He can return it. He’s almost in a group by himself among these modern, do-it-all, 6-foot receivers. He has like Garrett Wilson skills right now as a junior/senior in high school. He’ll be in the conversation as the best to ever come through the state.”
As a junior, Williams caught 72 passes for 1,324 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also rushed for 261 yards and seven scores, threw a TD pass and returned two kickoffs and one punt for TDs.
“Without a doubt over the years, I’ve seen and coached against some good ones,” Kelly said. “As a receiver, ball carrier, ball handler, playmaker, Ryan is probably going to be the best non-quarterback guy I’ll probably ever coach. He’s one of those generational kinds of guys. I think if he continues to work and stay healthy, and I know he will do those things, he will continue to play for a long time.”
In winning The Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Mr. Football award as a sophomore and leading Saraland to the 6A state title, Williams caught 88 passes for 1,641 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also rushed 57 times for 700 yards and 15 TDs, threw a touchdown pass and scored on a pair of punt returns.
He has a chance to become the first repeat winner in the history of the award next month.
