On one of the the worst three-point shooting days of the Nate Oats era, Alabama still won.

The Tide began 1-of-20 from beyond the arc Saturday in Coleman Coliseum but managed to erase what had been a 11-point Arkansas lead and beat the Razorbacks, 86-83.

Alabama finished 3-of-22 on triples, with Brandon Miller and Jahvon Quinerly connecting on the Tide’s final two attempts of the game in key moments.

Alabama’s 13.6 percent rate on three pointers was tied as the third-worst of the Nate Oats era and second-lowest this season after it shot 10.7 percent in an opening-night win over Longwood. The last time Alabama shot so poorly from three-point range and won an SEC game was January 2019 against Mississippi State, when it finished 1-of-15, or 6.7 percent.

The comeback victory was fueled by Alabama’s rebounding, second-half defense and its two-point shooting in the second half. Alabama made 17 of its 22 two pointers after halftime, with Brandon Miller scoring 17 of his game-high 24 points in the second half.

Miller finished 1-of-6 on three pointers but his lone make with 3:08 remaining gave Alabama a 12-point lead and erupted the Coleman Coliseum crowd after the Tide’s 15 consecutive misses from deep.

Quinerly scored 16 points, including 12 after halftime, his most since 21 in a four-overtime November win over North Carolina. He made a three-pointer with 1:27 left after Arkansas had trimmed their 12-point deficit to five points.

The Hogs, though, did not go away quietly. After falling behind by eight points on Quinerly’s make, they scored on their next five possessions — including a Nick Smith triple that cut Alabama’s lead to two points with 10 seconds left. Rylan Griffen missed his first free throw but made his second to give the Tide a three-point lead, and Arkansas’ final three-point attempt did not fall to end the game.

Other than a three-minute stretch in the first half, Arkansas led until Alabama re-took the lead with 14 minutes to play. The Hogs finished 5-of-10 on three pointers, including 4-of-7 in the second half. But Arkansas had a stretch of eight missed field goals midway through the second half that helped Alabama take control of the afternoon game.

Alabama out-rebounded Arkansas, 48-37. That included a 26-15 advantage in the second half.

With the win, Alabama moved to 15-1 in the SEC and can clinch a share of the regular-season title with a win Wednesday night at home against Auburn. If Texas A&M loses to Mississippi State later Saturday, then Alabama could clinch the SEC outright against Auburn, before its trip to College Station next weekend.

Saturday’s game marked senior day in which forwards Dom Welch and Noah Gurley, and walk-on guard Adam Cottrell, were honored in a ceremony after the game.
