Alabama co-pilot dies in Ohio plane crash Tuesday night
An Alabama man co-piloting a small plane was killed Tuesday night when the aircraft crashed in Ohio, authorities said.
Malik Naseem, 60, of Jasper, was co-piloting the Cessna 172 when it crashed around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday Eastern time as it approached the Madison County, Ohio, airport in London, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The plane was approaching the runway when it “sustained severe damage and was on its top when troopers and first responders arrived,” the agency said.
The pilot of the aircraft, Athar Mohammad Ashraf, 43, of Columbus, Ohio, was also pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The FAA and the NTSB were notified of the crash and are expected to investigate the cause.
