Alabama city hits its all-time high for February
One Alabama city not only set a high temperature record for Feb. 23 — it also set a record for the month of February.
The National Weather Service said Muscle Shoals hit a sultry 86 degrees on Thursday, shattering the previous Feb. 23 record high of 83 degrees last reached in 2012.
Muscle Shoals’ high temperature was 27 degrees above average for Feb. 23, according to weather service data.
It was also the warmest day in February on record in Muscle Shoals, according to the weather service.
One other city also had record warmth on Thursday.
Montgomery hit 85 degrees, tying the record last reached in 2019. Montgomery’s high was 18 degrees above average for Feb. 23.
Other Alabama cities were warm, but not record warm on Thursday:
* Anniston: 80 degrees (record 84 in 1996)
* Birmingham: 81 degrees (record 83 in 1996)
* Huntsville: 82 degrees (record 83 in 1996)
* Mobile: 78 degrees (record 82 in 2022)
* Tuscaloosa: 83 degrees (record 84 in 1996)
Cooler temperatures are expected across most of north Alabama on Friday thanks to the passage of a cold front through part of the state.
Highs tomorrow are only expected to reach the 50s and 60s in north and north-central Alabama. However, the spring-like warmth will hang on for those south of the front in south Alabama, with highs expected to climb back into the 80s on Friday.
