Alabama child torture suspect caught in California

A man wanted on child abuse and torture charges in Huntsville was arrested last week in San Diego, Calif.

Omar Castillo, supervisory deputy U.S. Marshal, said Steven Flanagan is awaiting extradition back to Alabama.

Marshals, acting on a tip from the Gulf Coast Regional Task Force, tracked Flanagan to an address in Lakeside, Calif., a San Diego suburb of about 20,000.

Castillo said authorities believed he was living there in an apartment with his girlfriend. When teams arrived last Thursday morning, Flanagan was taken into custody without incident.

He is wanted in Huntsville on charges of torture and willful abuse of a child, Castillo said.
